What are facial thread veins, spider veins and broken veins?
They are small, unsightly, superficial veins that can be red, purple or blue. The medical term for them is telangiectasia.
The veins are not acutally broken. They occur when very small blood vessels or capillaries dilate and become large enough to be visible through the transparency of the skin. Over time they tend to become even larger. They tend to occur around the nose but can occur on cheeks, sides of face, chin and chest. Their appearance may look like spider legs, red spots, blotches or red lines.
What causes facial thread veins?
There are many causes of facial thread veins and sometimes they are due to a combination of factors. The causes will be discussed during your free initial consultation and appropriate advice offered. The following factors may lead to the formation of thread veins.......
Sun exposure, extremes of weather, cold, heat, wind.
Pregnancy and childbirth, hormones. hereditary factors.
Trauma to the area, exfoliation of the skin, squeezing blackheads or spots.
Over use of steroid creams, certain auto immune diseases. Excess alcohol, smoking, respiratory diseases, liver disease. Rosacea.
How are the veins removed?
Traditionally veins have been treated by using electroloysis, laser and IPL. These methods are usually quite painful and can lead to blistering, hypo and or hyperpigmentation and even scarring.
Laser and IPL require the practitioner to wear dark protective glasses to protect their eyes from the potentially harmful rays and this can make treatment difficult as the veins are very difficult to see through the darkened goggles.

The polarised light eliminates any glare on the skin for a clearer view of the area to be treated. The fine veins, although visible through a magnifying loop become instantly more defined, which allows the nurse practitioner to treat the area more quickly, effectively and accurately.
How does the V Beauty work?
The V- Beauty utilises the principle of thermo coagulation by using microwaves to produce heat energy which coagulates the blood in the tiny veins and causes the vein walls to collapse and disappear. This technique is often used in vascular surgery. The resulting debris is simply removed through the circulatory system much like the debris of a bruise would be.
The treatment is performed by using a sterile, single use, ultra-fine needle, coated with an invisible insulating sheath which protects the skin from the heat. The tiny needle is only inserted about 1mm and causes a slight prickly sensation. Often veins can be as small as 0.3mm, the ulta fine needle ensures that only the veins are targeted whilst preserving the surrounding skin. This ensures accurate and highly effective removal of veins without the need to penetrate them.
Side effects are minimal. The skin usually feels warm and looks red for a short while afterwards and tiny little cat like scratches appear after a few days. This is known as micro crusting. These marks are generally no worse than the thread veins. They graduallly disappear and leaves no scarring or hypo or hyper pigmentation.
Usually people only require 1-3 treatments but some with extensive veins may require more.
